PROTECTED LEARNING TIMES (PLT) CLOSURE

The objective of Protected Learning Time (PLT), refers to providing dedicated and uninterrupted time for the entire practice team to focus on professional development, training, and service improvements, to ultimately enhance patient care.

During these sessions, we will be closed for an afternoon so that both clinical staff (GP’s, Pharmacists, nurses, paramedics and healthcare assistants) and non-clinical staff (management, receptionists and administration teams), can learn together in a structured environment.

The core objectives of our protective learning include:

  1. IMPROVING PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY.

Updating Clinical knowledge: Our clinicians use this time to learn about the newest clinical developments, update national guidelines and prescribing practices.

Standardising Safety Procedures: Our teams review safety protocols, mandatory NHS training updates, and standard operating procedures to minimise medical errors and ensure regulatory compliances.

2. TEAMS AND SERVICES DEVELOPMENT.

Review Practices Workflow: Our staff look closely at how the clinics operate to implement administrative and operational service improvements.

Cross-Team Collaboration: (PLT) provides a rare opportunity for both our clinical and non-clinical staff, who usually work in a fast-paced, isolating bubble, to align on both practice goals and internal challenges, to thereafter share feedback.

3. FOSTERING A SAFE LEARNING CULTURE.

Reflecting on Adverse Events: (PLT) offers us a ‘safe space’ for the team to openly discuss significant events, complaints, or near misses, without fear of immediate blame, turning mistakes into collective educational insights.

Prevent Burnout: By protecting this time form the intense daily pressures, keeps staff motivated, engaged and supported.
